Manchester United have made Jack Grealish their No.1 summer transfer target.

Leicester City playmaker James Maddison remains on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s radar, but the 23-year-old is said to be close to agreeing a new long-term contract with the Foxes.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are almost guaranteed, unlike United, to qualify for next season’s Champions League and will not entertain the idea of inserting a release clause in any new deal after Chelsea were able to sign N’Golo Kante, relatively cheaply, for £35million back in 2016.

United, according to the Mirror, will instead focus their attentions on Grealish, who could be open to a summer move once Aston Villa’s plight is settled.

The 24-year-old attracted significant interest from several Premier League big-hitters last month, but with his hometown club in danger of relegation he refused to consider a move mid-season.

United finally completed the signing of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon last week and although the Portugal international made an eye-catching debut against Wolves, the drab 0-0 draw at Old Trafford again highlighted Solskjaer’s need for attacking reinforcements.

Paul Pogba looks almost certain to seek a fresh challenge after this summer’s European championships, while the future of Jesse Lingard is far from certain.

England international Lingard has scored just two goals in the 36 appearances this season and was last week slammed by his own manager during the 1-0 Carabao Cup semi final second leg win over Manchester City.

The 27-year-old has slowly slipped down his manager’s pecking order and he has recently been linked with a summer move to Atletico Madrid.
