Manchester United have failed with an attempted to sign Josh King from Bournemouth, according to reports.

The 28-year-old played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for United’s reserves but was unable to make the breakthrough to the senior team.

King has now established himself at Bournemouth and has scored 45 goals in 151 Premier League games for Eddie Howe’s side.

United are keen to sign a new striker before Friday’s transfer dead and according to MailOnline, the club made a move to bring King back to Old Trafford.

But Bournemouth have told United that they do not want to lose the forward as he remains a key part of their side ahead of their relegation battle.

Howe’s side are currently 18th in the table but are level on points with 17th-placed West Ham.

King, meanwhile, scored the winner in Bournemouth’s 1-0 victory over United in November and after the match, Solskjaer praised his former player.

‘I’ve followed Josh since he came to United and before then when he was 15 or 16,’ said Solskjaer.

‘He has developed into a top player and is doing well for Bournemouth and Norway.

‘I’m not happy he scored against us but it’s great to see him having a good career.’
