Manchester United legend Wes Brown believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should attempt to sign James Maddison and Jack Grealish in January.

Solskjaer wants Ed Woodward to bolster his Manchester United squad with at least four new signings over the next two transfer windows, despite spending £150m last summer.

New additions Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James have all impressed for the Red Devils but Solskjaer’s side have still endured a poor start to the new season.

United held Premier League leaders Liverpool to a draw earlier in the month and beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday but are seventh in the table ahead of this weekend’s action.

Red Devils hero Brown expects United to be busy during the January transfer window and says his former club should look to sign Premier League stars Maddison and Grealish.

‘I think Ole will try and buy in January,’ the five-time Premier League winner told 888sport. ‘United need another striker and an attacking midfielder, that little wizard number 10.

‘The defence is fine. The goalkeepers are fine. The ideal thing would be two strikers and two midfielders. If only it was that easy!

‘Jack Grealish in the last few games has come on immensely. He can always see the pass. James Maddison has always been good and he’s a threat getting into the box.

‘These are two young English players who would definitely help the squad.’

Asked whether Manchester United may struggle to land top targets due to their domestic and European form, Brown said: ‘I still think United is a draw for players.

‘We’re still buying big players, and a lot of good English players with Harry and Wan-Bissaka coming in.

‘Ben Chilwell is an excellent player and Leicester are on a brilliant run and you can see the whole team has been lifted.

‘But if Manchester United went in for Chilwell I’m sure he would definitely come, 100%.’

On the gap between United and arch-rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, Brown added: ‘We are behind and everyone knows that.

‘It could take two or three years, you never know, to catch up. But Ole has only been there for ten months and I think people are getting now what he’s trying to do.’
