Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will put old rivalries aside for one night only and have dinner with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp following a charity auction.

The Scot hosted an event on Friday night at the Manchester Hilton, raising over £400,000 for the NHS to thank them for the life-saving care he received after suffering a brain haemorrhage last year.

According to The Sun, one of the prizes up for grabs was a sit-down meal together with both Sir Alex and Klopp.

Understandably, there was plenty of interest in an evening with two of football’s biggest minds – and personalities – and it was auctioned off for a whopping £100,000.

Klopp will have to venture into enemy territory for the meal, which will take place in Manchester, and was won by Betfred owner Fred Done.

It is not yet known when the meal will take place, though it is likely to be after the season is over given that Klopp will be focused on trying to win Liverpool’s first league title since 1990.

Klopp is a big fan of Ferguson and has met him several times, the first at a conference for Champions League coaches in Nyon while still in charge of Borussia Dortmund, and he may need to brush up on his Scottish before the charity dinner.

‘I asked if someone was here and they said, “Yes Sir Alex Ferguson is in the breakfast room”. I came in and he was like, “Oh Jurgen, come here”,’ Klopp told Sky Sports. ‘I came in and for the first half an hour I had no clue what we were talking about because of the Scottish thing.

‘I tried to be really, really friendly and step by step I got it. It’s still the same with Kenny Dalglish. He is a really nice person. I respect him a lot. Obviously he thinks I’m not completely blind as a manager so that’s good.’
