Manchester United will consider a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele if Romelu Lukaku ends up joining Inter Milan before the end of the transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

Lukaku has been linked with Inter throughout the summer with Antonio Conte desperate to secure his services having missed out on his signature to United while managing Chelsea.

The Belgium international has also made his admiration for Conte clear and is keen on making the move to Milan after slipping behind Marcus Rashford in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order.

Although Inter are running out of time to meet the £75m asking price for Lukaku, United have drawn up a shortlist of strikers to replace him including the former Celtic star Dembele.

The 23-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea during Conte’s time in charge but eventually left Celtic after two seasons to join Lyon in 2018 for £19.7m.

Dembele enjoyed a productive debut campaign in Ligue 1, top-scoring for Lyon with 15 goals in 32 matches ahead of the likes of Memphis Depay and Nabil Fekir.

Whether Lyon would be open to selling Dembele is another matter as they have already seen Tanguy Ndombele, Ferland Mendy and Fekir depart to Spurs, Real Madrid and Betis respectively.

Lukaku was absent once more during United’s 2-1 win over Spurs in Shanghai meaning he hasn’t played a single minute of the club’s pre-season tour to date despite travelling.

Solskjaer is adamant that he is injured, though, saying before the Spurs clash: ‘He got injured in training so he had to stay here.

‘If it was worse we would have sent him home, but he’s been working with the physios in the gym.’
