“His stats, his goals, his assists, his performances. Rooney came in and scored a hat-trick in his first game, Cantona comes in, puts his collar up and says ‘I’m a Manchester United player’.
“That type of impact he’s had, even in a team that probably isn’t as good as that team Rooney and Cantona played in.”
Fernandes called on United players to be leaders after the Everton win, saying: “I think we know inside of the dressing room what we have to do, the players that we have.
“Everyone needs to be a leader. Some are the mute leaders, they don’t talk too much but they’re doing the right things.
“Others need to speak a little bit more to be more part of the game, to feel more part of the game.
“But the point is, in the end of the game, taking the three points is for everyone, not just for one player.”
