Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford set for ‘weeks’ out with back injury

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Marcus Rashford is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

The Manchester United forward has suffered a recurrence of a back injury which has been troubling him of late, culminating in him departing after only 16 minutes on the pitch against Wolves.

Rashford had been left as sub for the FA Cup third-round replay and Solskjaer admitted he hadn’t wanted to bring him on.

But with the tie in the balance, Rashford was introduced – only to crumple in pain soon after, needing to be subbed off himself.

And now, with the striker missing from the matchday squad against Liverpool on Sunday, his manager has acknowledged that Rashford will be out for several weeks.

“He’s got a couple of knocks, jolts against Wolves,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“[He] aggravated his back [and] had trouble before; give him time to recover and rest before we put him back on the pitch.

“I wouldn’t expect him to be back in the next few weeks. We have a mid-season break and I’m not sure are going to see him before then, no.”

After the Anfield match, United face Burnley, Manchester City and Wolves before their two-week break from action.

Rashford has 14 Premier League goals this season; the next-highest scorer after him is Anthony Martial with eight.
