Manchester United are ‘confident’ of completing a deal for Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer, despite negotiations halting recently due to the coronavirous outbreak.

The England international was keen on a return to the Premier League last summer but United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League ended their chances of signing Sancho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer identified the winger as a priority target within weeks of taking charge at Old Trafford and Daniel James was signed for a fee of around £15m last summer in view of signing Sancho in 2020.

Chelsea have shown interest in Sancho but United are leading the way and Fabrizio Romano, who broke news about United’s deal for Harry Maguire, says the club remain ‘confident’ of bagging the England international.

Manchester United have been in contact with Jadon Sancho’s agent for two months and are working on his contract,’ the Italian said on Instagram Live.

‘The coronavirus pandemic is making it hard to communicate with Borussia Dortmund. United are confident.’

The news is sure to please United legend Rio Ferdinand.

The former United captain was singing Sancho’s praises on Tuesday, though he was doubtful whether the club could pull off a move for the winger.

‘I would take Sancho all day, to Man Utd,’ said Ferndinand.

‘Whether we’ll get him, though…

‘Great player, great potential, English, he’s brilliant. I would take Sancho now.’
