Ole Gunnar Solskjaer intends to sign a second midfielder once Manchester United finalise talks with Newcastle United for Sean Longstaff, reports say.

United intend to lodge an official offer this week for the Newcastle star – who is valued at around £25million by his club.

Solskjaer is desperate for reinforcements this summer and is focusing his efforts on bringing in young English talent.

But the Telegraph claim Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes is still a top target for Solskjaer.

United are concentrating on completing one signing at a time after lengthy negotiations with Swansea for Daniel James and Crystal Palace for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Solskjaer has told United to sign Longstaff, but will also move for Fernandes, even if Paul Pogba stays at Old Trafford.

Fernandes is the Norweigen’s preferred option, however, United are also considering Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.

Sporting want £70m for Fernandes, who is also being tracked by Tottenham and Liverpool.

Fernandes scored 23 goals last season and United’s interest in him was thought to hinge on whether Pogba left the club.

Solskjaer is planning to hold talks with Pogba when he returns to pre-season on Wednesday.

United are hopeful they can conclude a deal for Longstaff before the squad jets off for their pre-season tour of Australia this Sunday, but will need to move quickly.

Despite Pogba saying publicly he wanted a new challenge, Solskjaer wants to hear directly from the Frenchman when he arrives at Carrington on Wednesday.
