Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to seal the signing of Sean Longstaff this week, reports say.

United completed the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka over the weekend, who became their second signing of the summer after the arrival of Daniel James from Swansea.

Solskjaer now wants to add a midfielder to his ranks, but the Daily Star claim the United boss is eager to get the signing secured as soon as possible.

United’s squad return to pre-season in the coming days and Solskjaer has asked the Red Devils to meet Newcastle’s asking price for Longstaff.

Newcastle want £20million, as well as add-ons, for Longstaff and United have made the 21-year-old their priority midfield target ahead of Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes and Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen.

United will push ahead with the deal knowing Solskjaer wants Longstaff through the door before his players depart for their pre-season tour on 8 July.

Talks to sign Wan-Bissaka dragged on for weeks as United haggled with Crystal Palace over add-ons, but Solskjaer is demanding a quick resolution to negotiations with Newcastle.

United are poised to lodge an official bid for Longstaff, but reports claim the offer will be £5m below Newcastle’s asking price.
