Many businesses have been hard-hit by Covid-19 – including this cat cafe in Manchester.

Owners of Manchester’s Cat Cafe Ellie and Sarah Close posted on Facebook this week saying they were ‘heartbroken’ at the closure.

They explained how their lease on the property they were operating from had ended, saying: ‘It has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, but as it stands we simply cannot afford to continue in our current unit.’

Although they plan on reopening at a different location after the pandemic, they will now be looking to find homes for their 10 resident cats.

Harvey, Georgie, Aslan, Bert, Leo, Savannah, Riley, Darcey, Dax, and Daisy will all be rehomed with new families, ideally in pairs according to replies to the Facebook post.

Customers who’d visited the Northern Quarter cafe since its opening in 2016 shared their sadness at the closure, and well-wishes for the cats in their future home.

One person wrote: ‘This is just the saddest of news. The cats will have bonded so it will be hard for them to say goodbye. My heart breaks for you all who have done everything to keep going. Please let this horrible situation end soon and life again return to some kind of normality.’

It’s likely that most of the cats will go to staff or family of staff, however if you have a place for a pair of cats to be loved and spoiled it’s definitely worth contacting the cafe on Facebook.

For those worried about the animals’ futures, owners assured people: ‘We just want to let you all know that you don’t need to worry about our lovely kitties. They are so well loved and between the staff and family they will all easily be rehomed in pairs ‘
