Man Utd's top three transfer targets 'recommended by Jose Mourinho'

Manchester United are targeting three players this summer on the recommendation of Jose Mourinho, according to reports.

Former Red Devils boss Mourinho was sacked last season and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a temporary basis, before the Norwegian was later given the job permanently.

Solskjaer is under pressure to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season as United look to bounce back by finishing in a Champions League spot.

So far the Norwegian has signed just one player, £18million winger Daniel James from Swansea City.

United are linked to a whole host of other stars in a number of positions, and three of them are reportedly the result of Mourinho’s hard work before he parted company with the Old Trafford club.

Jose Mourinho apparently still has an influence at Man United

According to The Sun, Harry Maguire was identified as a quality defender and transfer target last summer, with the Portuguese even instructing his scouting team at United to monitor the centre-back.

The Red Devils were eventually priced out of the deal by Leicester City, but have remained linked to the defender this summer, with Woodward reportedly keen for United to land him.

The other two players still on United’s wishlist from the Mourinho days are West Ham duo Declan Rice and Issa Diop.

United recently received a counter-offer from the Hammers who suggested swapping Anthony Martial for 22-year-old Diop. The Red Devils quickly and predictably rejected the offer.

West Ham are looking at a fee closer to £75million for the centre-back, which would price United out of a deal for Diop.

The defender spoke to Mirror Football about the Irons back in May. He said: “West Ham is like a family. They have a lot of fans and they love the club.

Declan Rice has been linked with a move to Old Trafford

“They don’t necessarily want the best players but they want a good guy. Players who want to play for the shirt. Players willing to give everything on the pitch.”

The Hammers will likely slap a similarly huge price tag on Rice’s head in a bid to fend off interest in the England international.
