Man Utd youngster Mason Greenwood signs new long-term contract


Manchester United have handed youngster Mason Greenwood a new long-term contract.

The highly-rated teenager, 18, has penned a deal keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2023 with the option to extend for a further year.

The attacker became United’s youngest ever starter in the Premier League era against Cardiff last season and has played an increased role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season after an impressive pre-season.

Greenwood told Man Utd’s official website : “Having grown up as a Manchester United fan, playing for the first team is a real dream come true. I know that, when I play for this club, I represent the whole Academy and I want to repay the faith that my coaches have shown in me with my performances on the pitch.

“I am learning all the time from the manager and his coaching staff and I know that this is the perfect club to help me reach my potential.”

Manager Solskjaer, who has featured 12 academy graduates in his first-team plans so far this season, has been a vocal admirer of Greenwood and tipped him to be a future star at the club.

He added: “Mason has progressed through our outstanding Academy and we are delighted with the progress he has made.

“At such a young age, he already has great pace and intelligence and he is such a natural finisher.
