Man Utd weigh up Issa Diop bid as West Ham 'set price tag' for defender

West Ham United have told Manchester United it will take a bid of £60m to tempt them to sell Issa Diop this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned his attentions towards the 22-year-old defender after admitting defeat in the chase for Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt and after being quoted an eye-watering £80m to sign Leicester’s Harry Maguire.

United had been interested in doing a player-plus-money deal, but according to Sky Sports News they are not willing to let the player West Ham want leave the club.

Diop is also reported to be tempted by a move, but would also be happy to stay with West Ham if a fee cannot be agreed. He does, however, harbour long-term ambitions to play Champions League football.

Diop, who signed for the Hammers for £22m from Toulouse last summer, made 33 appearances in the Premier League last season and was one of the team’s stand-out players as they finished 10th.

PSG and Barcelona are also said to be monitoring Diop, who is being tipped for his first senior French call-up having represented his country from U16 to U21 level.

West Ham have already signed goalkeeper Roberto on a free and Pablo Fornals from Villarreal for £24m, and they seem determined to keep Diop as they aim to make a push for a European spot next season.

Man United, meanwhile, are prioritising strengthening their defence this summer after they conceded 54 goals in the league last season, more than the likes of Leicester , Crystal Palace and Newcastle .

They are still interested in Maguire, but feel he is over-valued by his club, and thus are on the lookout for cheaper options.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is still their number one target at right-back, while they are also prepared to splash the cash on new midfields, with Tanguy Ndombele and Sean Longstaff still on their radar.
