Eray Comert to Arsenal

Arsenal have Basel centre-back Eray Comert on their radar as they seek to strengthen their defence despite only having a limited transfer budget

The 22-year-old is a target for Galatasaray, who have already approached the Swiss giants through intermediaries.

That’s according to Turkish outlet Fanatik, who add that Arsenal could rival Galatasaray for Comert’s signature.

The defender, whose contract at St Jakob Park expires in 2022, has made 35 appearances this season, and has been an almost ever-present in the Swiss Super League.

But Transfermarkt value Comert at as little as £2million but Arsenal are highly likely to have to pay higher than that to land the Swiss international, who is of Turkish descent.

Jadon Sancho doubts

Dimitar Berbatov has reservations about Jadon Sancho joining Manchester United.

The England international, 20, has been linked with a £100million transfer to Old Trafford and Chelsea having consistently proven his ability with Borussia Dortmund.

But Old Trafford legend Berbatov believes Sancho should move somewhere he’s guaranteed first-team football.

“I don’t know if now is the right time for him to go to Manchester United, I have mentioned it before, I have my doubts here because at United there’s Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James,” Berbatov told Betfair.

“It’s good to have competition for the team but I would imagine if he moves to a new place he would want to play every game, but rotation is a common thing now in football. From that point of view, you can’t guarantee a player will play, but I think we need to go with that assumption, big money and he would like to play.

“For me, he is going to choose the team that he knows he is going to play. Not to move and do nothing because that is going to stop his development and that why I think it maybe better for him to stay at Dortmund for one more year, why not?”

I was fit… for a week

Denis Suarez has admitted that he was fit for about a week during his disastrous spell at Arsenal.

The Spanish midfielder arrived at the Emirates in January 2019 on a six-month loan deal but managed just 67 minutes of Premier League action before returning to Barcelona.

“I wanted Arsenal to sign me but the club were not able to at that time,” he told The Athletic. “The truth is I rejected other teams: Real Betis, Sevilla, AC Milan all wanted me.

“I took the risk of going on a loan. I could have signed for those other clubs on a four- or five-year deal. That’s how much I wanted it to work at Arsenal. So people don’t know fully what happened.”

Asked if he was ever fully fit, Suarez added: “The first week. Only that.”

N’Golo Kante hailed

Antonio Conte has hailed N’Golo Kante as “one of the best players” he’s coached in his managerial career.

Conte brought Kante to Stamford Bridge for £32million after the France international had won the Premier League title with Leicester.

“In my opinion, he can play in every position in midfield. We are talking about an amazing player, a top player,” Conte told Sky Sports.

“He is amazing with and without the ball. When you have N’Golo in your team, you can think you are playing with one player more. You can find a smile on his face every day. He is a very positive guy. He is one of the best players I have had in my career as a coach.”

Angel Gomes reservations

Chelsea have two reservations about firming up their interest in Manchester United starlet Angel Gomes.

The Blues have been monitoring the 19-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The first issue concerns the sum that would have to be handed over for the player’s services, according to Goal.

While Chelsea would not have to fork out a transfer fee, they would be required to pay their Premier League rivals a compensation package because Gomes has been in the club’s academy system from the age of six.

The Blues are also concerned about Gomes blocking the progress of players on long-term contracts in his position.

Lautaro Martinez wages

Barcelona are a step closer to signing Argentina international Lautaro Martinez.

That’s according to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim Inter Milan are unable to match Barcelona’s financial package.

The Spanish champions are reported to have offered the 22-year-old a long-term deal worth £8.75million (£170k-a-week).

But due to the financial impact of the Coronavirus, Antonio Conte’s side cannot match the offer Barcelona have made Martinez, who is currently paid £48,000-a-week at the San Siro.

Angel Gomes reaction

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t want Angel Gomes to leave Old Trafford.

The 19-year-old has been subject of interest from Chelsea and Barcelona with his time at the club winding down.

Gomes’ contract expires at the end of the season and, as of yet, the club have been unable to tie him down to an extension with talks at a standstill.

Goal say Solskjaer is keen to keep the playmaker, who has been terrific at youth level for a number of years, but the player could leave on a free transfer in a matter of weeks.

Donny suits Chelsea

Donny van de Beek is a better fit for Chelsea rather than Real Madrid or Barcelona.

That’s the opinion of former Ajax winger Jesper Gronkjaer, who believes the Holland international’s style of play would be utilised better by Frank Lampard.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Spurs have all been linked with the talented 23-year-old midfielder, who is reportedly valued at around £50million.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Real Madrid or Barcelona but I would rather see him at a club just below that,” Gronkjaer told Goal. “For his style of play alone, clubs like Tottenham or Chelsea would be a better fit.

“They are still top clubs and he is more like Frank Lampard, that kind of player. He is a big guy, box-to-box and takes good long shots, but he is not as technically gifted as other players that have come from Ajax. He is a player you can always get a certain level from.”

Timo Werner suitors

Liverpool and Chelsea face a battle to sign Timo Werner in the summer transfer window as Inter Milan have also joined the race for the RB Leipzig star.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been a long-time admirer of Werner, while Chelsea manager Frank Lampard sees the striker as an ideal candidate to provide competition for Tammy Abraham.

However, according to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are dreaming of bringing Werner to the San Siro this summer.

The Italian club are set to lose Lautaro Martinez, with the Argentine heavily linked with a summer move to Barcelona, as he wants to play alongside his compatriot Lionel Messi.

Erling Haaland to Real Madrid

Erling Haaland is capable of playing for Real Madrid and could well succeed at the Bernabeu.

That’s the opinion of the Norwegian’s former Byrne FK manager Alf Ingve Berntsen, who believes the ‘great clubs’ could regret not snapping up his signature soon.

“If I were the coach of any of the five best teams in the world, I would buy him immediately,” Berntsen told Bernabeu Digital. “I think he is ready to play for Real Madrid and I think he could succeed there.

“Erling is only 19 years old and he can still improve in all facets and parts of the game. I think that if the great clubs don’t sign him… they may regret it later.”

Ben Chilwell to Tottenham

Tottenham are determined to sign Leicester defender Ben Chilwell.

The England international, who has scored three goals and provided 12 assists in 118 appearances for Leicester, is Chelsea manager Frank Lampard’s top priority in the upcoming transfer window.

But according to Spanish website Todofichajes, former Blues manager Jose Mourinho could throw a spanner in the works.

The report claims Mourinho has requested Chilwell’s signature and that contact has already been made between the two parties with Spurs prepared to pay £40million for the 23-year-old.

Miralem Pjanic snub

Midfielder Miralem Pjanic has a verbal agreement to join Barcelona.

That’s according to Spanish newspaper Sport, who claim the deal has reached the ‘very advanced’ stages with a resolution expected this week.

Barcelona have offered multiple players in exchange for the 30-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovina international, who also received offers from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

But Pjanic prefers the Nou Camp with defender Jean-Clair Todibo and midfielder Ivan Rakitic potentially heading in the opposite direction.

Saul to Manchester United

Manchester United are ‘very close’ to signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

That’s according to Spanish website Todofichajes, who claim negotiations between the two parties are ‘practically closed’ with the agreement to be ‘made official’ at the end of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Saul, 25, has a £131million release clause in his current contract, that doesn’t expire until June 2026.

But the financial impact of the Coronavirus could force Diego Simeone’s side to sell for around £70million to balance the books and generate funds for their own transfer plans.

Todofichajes claim midfielder Paul Pogba has a ‘very good chance of going’ in the upcoming window and the 19-capped Spain international is his direct replacement.

Dani Ceballos decision

Dani Ceballos will NOT spend next season with Arsenal.

The Real Madrid midfielder arrived at the Emirates during Unai Emery’s ill-fated reign and was immediately handed Aaron Ramsey’s vacated number eight jersey.

But things haven’t gone to plan for the Spain international, who completed just three 90-minute Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

Now, Spanish website El Confidencial claim Arsenal have decided not to make his stay permanent or re-loan the Spaniard with the player opting to return to Spain and fight for his position under Zinedine Zidane.

Kingsley Coman transfer

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made Kingsley Coman a summer transfer target.

Coman has scored 30 goals and provided 33 assists in 147 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich and has helped the club win four Bundesliga titles.

However, this season he has seen his opportunities reduced and has only made 24 appearances in all competitions, during which time he has scored five goals and provided five assists.

And according to Sky Germany, City are prepared to compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona for his signature but his transfer hinges on the arrival of Leroy Sane.

Moussa Dembele decides

Manchester United are increasingly confident of completing a £60million deal for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent scouts to watch Dembele at least three times in the last six months as he tries to convince him to make a switch to Old Trafford.

Chelsea are also keen on the impressive former Celtic forward but the player himself has made sure United know he is their preferred choice.

The Daily Star claim Ed Woodward is now poised to make his move knowing Lyon may have to sell as they miss out on European qualification.
