Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Harry Maguire decision, Gareth Bale update, Ed Woodward call

Manchester United confident of second deal

Manchester United are optimistic about their chances of securing a deal for Newcastle ace Sean Longstaff to follow up the purchase of Daniel James.

The midfielder has caught Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s eye as the Norwegian looks to rebuild United from the ground up.

And the Mirror reckon Ed Woodward and the United board are ready to make their interest in Longstaff concrete.

Longstaff is expected to cost around £25m if a deal goes through, substantially less than other midfield targets United have eyed.

Ed Woodward call

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has supposedly decided Matthijs de Ligt is the only centre-back he will sign.

The Independent reckon the executive vice-chairman is unwilling to consider backup options for the Ajax ace.

That would rule United out of the race for Leicester’s Harry Maguire, potentially opening the door for Manchester City.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is, however, understood to be desperate to snare a centre-back so might push for a deal.

Gareth Bale update

Manchester United have struck Gareth Bale’s name off a list of transfer targets after changing their policy on signings.

Bale has long-been linked with a move to Old Trafford and, with his time at Real Madrid up, talk has reared its head again.

However, at 29, the Wales international no longer fulfils the criteria for the signings Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants.

Sky Sports reckon Solskjaer just wants young, up-and-coming players, leaving Bale out in the cold.

Harry Maguire decision

Manchester United believe Harry Maguire is too expensive at the £90m price Leicester have slapped on him.

Maguire has forged a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top centre-backs thanks to his performances for Leicester and England.

As his stock has risen, United have considered moving him for two summer windows on the bounce.

The London Evening Standard reckon that while United see Maguire as overpriced, they have decided to still go after him for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
