Man Utd transfer news: Jadon Sancho record bid, Telles chase frustrates Porto

Manchester United picked up their first points of the new Premier League campaign on Saturday, beating Brighton with a last-gasp penalty after dropping points in their opening fixture against Crystal Palace.

Attention will now turn to recruitment, with just a week remaining for United to wrap up the last of their transfer dealings – and one deal continues to dominate.

United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho has dragged on for months, and a failure to conclude a deal before October 5 means the Englishman will stay in Germany until the new year.

For now, though, United can only boast one senior signing in this window – former Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek – and are running out of time to add to that.

United preparing ‘final’ Sancho bid this week

United will make a take-it-or-leave-it bid for Jadon Sancho this week

Manchester United have not given up hope of clinching a deal for Jadon Sancho before deadline day.

That’s according to the Daily Star, who report that the English club are preparing a take-it-or-leave-it bid for the Borussia Dortmund forward.

Dortmund have maintained they will not accept less than £108m for the England international, but United are reportedly ready to test the German club’s resolve with a £90m offer.

According to the report, the fee would comprise of an initial £75m with up to £15m in add-ons.

Sancho has started all three of his club’s league and cup games this season, completing the full 90 minutes at the weekend as Dortmund suffered a surprise defeat away to Augsburg.

If United are to pay £90m for the England international, it would top the £89.3m club record amount they spent to bring Paul Pogba back to Manchester in 2016.

Porto want £18m for Alex Telles – but he could leave for free next summer

Porto and Manchester United are reportedly some way apart in their respective valuations of Alex Telles, casting doubt over a Premier League move for the left-back.

According to O Jogo, via Sport Witness, the Portuguese side will only entertain a move if they are given time to find a replacement for their player. As a result, any deal would likely need to be completed a few days before the transfer window shuts.

Reports in Portugal suggest United are reluctant to go above €15m (£13.6m) for the Brazil international, with Porto holding out for €20m (£18m).

Telles is in the final year of his contract, and United may be reluctant to pay over the odds for a player who will be available for nothing next summer.

The full-back has played twice in the Primeira Liga so far this season, scoring twice from the penalty spot as Porto beat Braga at the Dragao.

Brighton manager Graham Potter was in charge at Swansea City when Daniel James established himself, and is reportedly keen on a reunion with the Manchester United winger.

James played 33 Championship games under Potter in the 2018/19 season, prompting United to bring him to Old Trafford in an eight-figure deal, but the Welshman is the subject of interest after falling down the pecking order at his current club.

Leeds United are also interested, having failed to coax James to Elland Road in January 2019, with The Athletic reporting that both they and the Seagulls are testing the water over a loan deal.

However, the report suggests James may still opt against an exit and continue fighting for his place at United.

James played 45 minutes in his club’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace, but was left on the bench for the Carabao Cup win at Luton and wasn’t in the matchday 18 as United beat Brighton in the league.
