Man Utd target James Maddison sent bold transfer message as prediction made

Manchester United used to be one of the biggest pulls in world football but Shaka Hislop has warned James Maddison not to move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are expected to make moves for the Leicester star in January.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be heavily backed once again when the transfer window reopens next month.

A midfielder is thought to be very high on the Norwegian’s shortlist and Maddison fits the bill after a storming start to the season.

Leicester are on course for a shock top-four finish as they sit second in the table, above Manchester City.

However, a number of their leading stars are likely to be sought after in the next transfer window.

But former Premier League goalkeeper Hislop cannot see Maddison leaving the King Power Stadium to link up with Solskjaer at United.

However, ahead of this weekend’s clash with Everton the United boss backtracked.

“I didn’t say January did I? I said going forward,” he explained.

“Targets that we’re looking at, they’re long-term targets. If there’s something popping up that might be as a short-term, maybe. But we’re always thinking long term.”

Meanwhile, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers issued a defiant message to anybody monitoring his players earlier this week.

“There will be nobody leaving in January, categorically,” the Northern Irishman said.

“I am speaking regularly with (director of football) Jon (Rudkin) and Top (owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha).

“It is really clear, we want to keep this squad together. It is an exciting team with growth and development in it, so we want to ensure they stay around beyond January.

“It’s the nature of the game that when you are doing well there will always be speculation around you, (players like) James and one or two of the other boys, they understand that.

“But long may it continue because he (Maddison) has been absolutely brilliant and started the season very well. James is a bright young player with a big future. He had a great spell at Norwich, they had to sell him I understand because the club needed the money, and has continued to flourish here.

“He is very hungry to be better and that is what is key. He has been consistently very good and he has a great hunger for the game.”
