Man Utd target Bruno Fernandes in Sporting squad vs Benfica as transfer delay confirmed

Manchester United will have to wait until the weekend at least to wrap up a deal for Bruno Fernandes with the midfielder set to feature for Sporting Lisbon in tonight’s derby clash against Benfica. The Red Devils are trying to complete the signing of the Sporting captain to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield for the second half of the season.

But they face an agonising evening, hoping and praying Fernandes does not pick up an injury which would force them to go back to the drawing board in their search for a top-level recruit.

Sporting confirmed this afternoon that Fernandes is in Silas’ squad for this evening’s showdown with Lisbon rivals Benfica at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Fernandes’ importance to the Primeira Liga’s fourth-place side has been underlined this season, with 13 goals and 10 assists provided by the 25-year-old in all competitions.

It’s that kind of output Solskjaer will be hoping to get from the Portugal international once he leaves his homeland behind to head to Old Trafford.
