Solskjaer is set to be handed a hefty transfer budget in January, and while United accept it would be tough to sign both players, they are ready to push hard for at least one of them with a view to landing the second further down the line.

Both have impressed United scouts and reports have been compiled on the pair, who they believe fit all the requirements to be a success at Old Trafford.

United will face serious competition for Chilwell, who has been heavily linked with Chelsea and Manchester Unitd, but their priority in the January transfer window remains a striker.

Lyon’s Moussa Dembele is thought to be a target, with Solskjaer keen to add to his options of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial down the middle.
