Man Utd star Paul Pogba would be a ‘fantastic’ transfer signing for Real Madrid, says Raphael Varane

RAPHAEL VARANE has admitted it would be “fantastic” if Real Madrid can sign Paul Pogba this summer.

Real are considering pushing on with a £150million bid for the Manchester United star as they look to strengthen ahead of the new La Liga season.

And defender Varane, a fellow World Cup winner of Pogba’s with France, says there is little doubt Real would be better for having him in their side.

Varane said: “I think we have a team. Pogba is a good player, I know him very well.

“For any team he would be fantastic.

“If new players come, we’ll see. I trust my team-mates.”

Having been heavily linked with a move for Pogba at the start of the close season, the chase went cold for a few weeks as the Spanish club looked to make do without him.

But Real’s dismal form and performances in pre-season have caused major concern at the Bernabeu, and now the United star is suddenly back as a potential option.

United have maintained they are not interested in selling the 26-year-old, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to build his side around him.

THREE DEFEATS

So far Zinedine Zidane’s side have played four matches as they prepare for the new campaign – and have lost three of them.

The only match they avoided defeat in was against Arsenal, where they came through on penalties in the International Champions Cup.

And the 7-3 thrashing by Atletico Madrid last weekend particularly set the alarm bells ringing that the squad is nowhere near strong enough to challenge in La Liga this year.

But Varane insists there is enough quality in Zidane’s squad and says it is player errors and not Zidane’s tactics that are letting them down so far.

He added: “I understand that you always want to improve. We are working on that and I trust in our work.

“It is true that on an individual level we are making mistakes. They’re not tactical, they’re technical errors. This will be corrected. I think we’re going to improve little by little. We are focused on our work.

“I understand that there are many expectations. I also want to see Madrid win, we all want more, it’s good and normal.”

Real Madrid have launched a £145million raid for Paul Pogba, according to reports in Spain
