Marcus Rashford on Liverpool draw
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford doesn’t believe that Liverpool deserved a point from their Premier League clash on Sunday, despite the Reds’ impressive second-half display.
“My overall feeling is disappointment,” he said.
“I think we deserved the three points and we can say it was a better performance, but at the end of the day they didn’t deserve to draw or win the game.
“So, I see it as we’ve lost two points and it was a big opportunity, a big game, but we keep going. We’ll try and get a win mid-week and hopefully we can kick on.”
Ed Woodward on transfer plans
Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has discussed the club’s transfer plans, including summer target Bruno Fernandes.
When asked by United We Stand if Fernandes used the club for his own means, Woodward said: “It hit a peak five seasons ago with 250 players.
“It was 177 two seasons ago. It’s around 200 every year.
“We’re usually after three players, so we might be talking to nine in reality.
“What you are referring to in the original question does happen, but it’s less likely to happen give our closed-door approach to recruitment targets.
“But it does exist and we have to be wary of that [players using the club].
“Sometimes, the amount of time a player or his agent invests into discussions, meetings and contracts shows that there is an interest.
“If it was only a flippant interest then they could go and put a fake story then go to a club president and go say ‘Look at who is in for me.’ That happens all the time as well.
“What sometimes also happens is that we do have a player in an agreed position, but his club refuse to sell and, because the club refuse to sell, the player then uses that to get a new contract.
“From our perspective, we have to try and see through it and make sure that the club is not being used.
“We don’t waste time, we’re more robust.”
Jose Mourinho delivers Liverpool verdict
Jose Mourinho declared himself “happy” that Liverpool failed to beat his former club Manchester United on Sunday afternoon – because it means he is the only manager ever to lead a team to nine straight wins at the start of a Premier League season.
“Klopp has never beaten United at Old Trafford, and I feel he didn’t like the menu. He likes meat, and he got fish,” the 56-year-old, who was sacked as United boss in December last year, said.
“He was not happy, and they are of course much stronger playing against a side who gives them chances on the counter-attack and on the transition but United at this moment play with a different profile.
“They try to be solid at the back and they kept the three centre-backs solid and compact with the midfield. They didn’t like the menu.
“They have this fantastic record of victories and I must say I’m happy because the other record [nine straight wins] is mine.
“But they have limitations against teams with low blocks. They can smash opponents that play the way they want to play against.
“Jurgen clearly has frustrations. It’s a fantastic situation for his team. But at Old Trafford – which is a special place to win – he [Klopp] never did it.”
Man Utd told to sign Harry Kane
Roy Keane believes that Manchester United should go and sign Harry Kane.
While Graeme Souness and Gary Neville argued about whether it was right to sell Romelu Lukaku, Keane issued a simple response after United’s draw with Liverpool.
“Just go and get Kane from Spurs,” he said in the Sky Sports studio.
“It’s simple.”
