Man Utd 'make transfer approach' for £30m AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek

Manchester United have reportedly made contact with AC Milan over striker Krzysztof Piatek.

The Red Devils are desperate for reinforcements in attack following the news Marcus Rashford is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines .

Rashford has suffered a double stress fracture to his back, ruling him out for up to three months.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated Rashford’s absence could force United to seek a short-term option in the January transfer window.

The Athletic reported United had already enquired about the availability of Piatek prior to Rashford’s injury, and were hopeful of securing the Polish star on an initial loan deal.

Piatek was a prolific marksman for former club Genoa, but has struggled to hit the same heights for Milan since.

With only five goals to his name in 19 appearances this season, Milan are now said to be prepared to let Piatek leave the club.

The Rossoneri are driving a hard bargain however, demanding a fee in the region of €35million (£29.7m).

Piatek could be allowed to move to Old Trafford on loan this month, providing the agreement includes an obligation for United to buy the forward at the end of his spell.

Tottenham have also been keeping tabs on Piatek’s situation, given their own injury issues with Harry Kane recovering from recent surgery.

Solskjaer could yet hold out until the summer, after suggesting it was down to the players already at the club to cover Rashford’s absence.

“We know Marcus is out for a few months and that will take its toll because we’re stretched,” said Solskjaer. “So step up, someone’s got to step up.

“If we find something in the transfer market, that might be one solution.

“But the best solution is the players stepping up, making sure they’re ready and taking their chances, because we will create chances.”
