Man Utd make decision on Alexis Sanchez transfer and have a plan for next summer

Manchester United have absolutely no intention of trying to revive Alexis Sanchez’s career at Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes that a permanent deal for the Chile international materialises during the summer, after he returns from his loan at Inter Milan.

But, any deal would rely on Sanchez impressing during his spell in Serie A this season.

He’s so far scored just one goal at the Italian club this season, after joining them on a season-long loan in August.

But, Sanchez’s campaign has stalled after he picked up a serious ankle injury at the start of October.

He was forced off the pitch in Chile’s 0-0 draw with Colombia, and isn’t likely to return to action until the new year.

Sanchez started just one game for Antonio Conte’s side in the league before his injury setback, before being sent off in the same game.

He did, however, feature in the starting XI for Inter’s trip to the Nou Camp to face Barcelona in October, and recorded an assist during the Champions League clash.

If Sanchez were to leave Old Trafford during the summer, it has previously been reported that United would demand at least £25million for the forward.

The transfer fee would be used to pay off part of a huge severance package for Sanchez.

He’s still owed in excess of £40m in wages, with almost three years left on his current contract.

United offered Sanchez a deal worth £500,000-a-week when he signed from Arsenal in January 2017.

Earlier this season, an Old Trafford source told The Sun: “The plan is to get some money back and use that to pay off most of his contract.

“There is a hope that he has a good spell at Inter and they or another club want to take him off our hands next summer.

“We have a fair valuation as he still has a few good years left in him based on his age and his strong reputation.”

Sanchez had a disastrous spell at Old Trafford, after making his move from the Gunners. He scored just five goals in 45 appearances for the Red Devils.
