Man Utd lead Liverpool in transfer race for Borussia Monchengladbach ace

Manchester United are at the head of a queue of clubs who are targeting Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria.

The 23-year-old has proved to be a big hit in the Bundesliga as his side mount an unlikely title push.

Despite his tender age he has made almost 100 appearances for the German side following his move from Swiss side Young Boys in 2017.

The defensive midfielder could add more grunt to United’s midfield with doubts still existing over the future of Nemanja Matic.

Denis Zakaria is having a stellar season in Germany

Sky in Germany understand that United, Liverpool , Atletico Madrid and domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund are all tracking Zakaria.

Monchengladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl is confident of keeping the player however.

He recently said: “I think that there is a very good chance that Denis will still be with us next year if we qualify for the Champions League.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will look to invest again in the summer

Currently Monchengladbach are fourth, two points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and heading for Europe’s top table.

United though will go again in the summer transfer window as they eye a return to the top of English football.

A recent upturn in form has seen them push for a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was well backed last year and it is likely he will be again, especially given their recent unbeaten run.

Solskjaer is a fan of young players having added Dan James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka last summer.

The likes of Jadon Sancho, James Maddison, Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham are all on his radar as he continues his commitment to youth.
