Fans are desperate to see new signings come in and are not afraid to vent their frustrations online.

And according to ESPN, the club are well aware of the mood and fear it may have consequences on the pitch as well as off it if the anger at Ed Woodward and the board affects Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

So far in this transfer window, United have extended the loan deal of Odion Ighalo and signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax for £39million.

But the summer has been dominated by targets the club have seemingly missed out on, although the report adds United are surprised by these claims.

Jadon Sancho was the No1 priority but a deal could not be agreed with Borussia Dortmund to land the Three Lions winger, who looks on course to stay in Germany at least for another year.

United were also heavily linked with Real Madrid pair Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

Talks were held with both players’ representatives but sources claim that is as far as negotiations went.

Now they are on the verge of completing deals to join Tottenham instead.

Bale, a long-term United target, will sign on loan for the season with Spurs picking up around 50 per cent of his £650,000-a-week wages.

Left-back Reguilon, meanwhile, is set to complete a permanent switch at White Hart Lane with United backing out of a deal because Real insisted on a buy-back clause.

The duo flew from Spain into Luton on Friday – on board a private jet provided by Daniel Levy – before Bale was given a hero’s welcome by supporters on his return.
