Man Utd in Henderson row with Sheffield Utd as Red Devils ready bumper new deal

Manchester United’s contract talks with Dean Henderson are set to cause Sheffield United a problem if the Blades want the goalkeeper on loan again next season.

Henderson’s future has been the subject of much discussion after he impressed for the Blades this term, finishing the campaign with 13 clean sheets.

That was the same number of shutouts as Red Devils No1 David de Gea, who has come increasingly under the spotlight following a series of high-profile errors this season.

United want to tie Henderson down to a new long-term deal, with the 23-year-old having attracted interest from Chelsea as Frank Lampard targets a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Henderson, who has been touted as a future England star, doesn’t want to warm the bench at Old Trafford, and so one option is that he returns to Bramall Lane to continue his development while United keep faith with De Gea for one more season.

However, United want Sheffield United to pay all of Henderson’s wages, according to The Sun.

And that could be a problem for Chris Wilder’s side, with Henderson reportedly set to earn £100,000 per week if he accepts the new deal from United.

The Blades have covered a proportion of Henderson’s wages over the past two seasons, but that amounted to a lot less than what the keeper is set to be offered.

United must tread carefully where their young prospect is concerned, with Henderson having outlined his desire to be the first-choice keeper for club and country.

He told TV3 : “I think it’s clear for everyone to know. I want to play for Manchester United and England.

“It feels like I always hit a brick wall. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity [to play for Man Utd], maybe I won’t, then I’ll have to look down a different avenue.”

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has predicted big things for Henderson, saying: “Dean has had a fantastic couple of years at Sheffield United.

“Eventually he will end up as England and Manchester United number one.”

But Solskjaer must be wary of Chelsea’s interest in Henderson, with Stamford Bridge boss Lampard believed to be on the lookout for a new No 1 having dropped Arrizabalaga towards the end of last season.
