Man Utd flops told Liverpool's youngsters would give them run for their money

Anfield legend John Aldridge has taken aim at Manchester United – and suggested they would struggle against Liverpool’s youngsters.

Jurgen Klopp is again expected to name a much-changed side for Liverpool’s FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury on Sunday.

The likes of Curtis Jones, Neco Williams and Harvey Elliott will be hoping to be involved after starring against Everton in the previous round.

Aldridge believes the side put out at New Meadow by Klopp will still be Premier League quality and highlighted the huge gulf between Liverpool and rivals United following last weekend’s clash.

“The Liverpool line-up that will take on Shrewsbury today would give the Manchester United side that lost at Anfield last weekend a run for their money and that statement highlights how far Klopp has moved his team ahead of their old rivals,” he writes in the Irish Independent.

Curtis Jones celebrates against Everton

“Not a single active United player would even get onto the Liverpool bench right now and only a few of them would make it into Liverpool’s second-choice line-up, in my opinion.

“The now-injured Marcus Rashford is the only United player who could get close to adding something to this Liverpool team and it explains why the shift in power between the two biggest clubs in English football will remain in place for a long time to come.”

Jurgen Klopp is expected to make wholesale changes against Shrewsbury although there will be recalls for experienced players.

Joel Matip and Fabinho are likely to start following injury problems, as are Divock Origi and Adam Lallana.

Liverpool continued their incredible unbeaten league season when they beat Wolves at Molineux on Thursday night.
