Man Utd fans' Edinson Cavani theory could have impact on Cristiano Ronaldo debut

Manchester United fans are convinced that Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to make his debut this Saturday when they take on Newcastle. It comes after training pictures emerged with Edinson Cavani mysteriously absent.

United fans have theorised that Ronaldo will start this Saturday’s match against Newcastle after failing to spot Cavani in training.

The 36-year-old has returned to his old club 12 years after leaving with fans desperate to see him in action.

Old Trafford is expected to be a raucous cauldron of noise ahead of the weekend, with tickets sold out.

But it has yet to be confirmed whether Ronaldo will play in the match with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer known to gradually wean new players into his system.

However, the temptation will be too much for even the Norweigan to appease the home crowd, who will be crying out for his arrival.

More than anything, Solskjaer might not actually have a choice with Marcus Rashford out injured while fans are sure that Cavani will not take part because he was not seen in training.

One fan said: “I haven’t seen Cavani training, Ronaldo is definitely starting.”

Another wrote: “Cavani definitely not at training, I think Cristiano starts.”

While a third tweeted: “3rd day in a row where Cavani hasn’t been seen in training. Pretty much guarantees Ronaldo starting against Newcastle.”

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has insisted that he is ready to start against Newcastle and he will be pressuring Solskjaer to get in the XI.

When asked by Wes Brown about his initial debut as an 18-year-old during an exclusive chat on the Old Trafford pitch, Ronaldo said: “I was very nervous.

“I did not expect to play because when I signed for United I thought I would be back in Portugal for one more year.

“But Sir Alex Ferguson said ‘no, no, you’re going to be in the squad for the game.’

“I was super nervous, I called my fiends and everyone, I really did not expect to come on in the game so I was so nervous.

“Of course, I will be nervous on Saturday but I am more mature, I am experienced, I will be prepared. I am going to pressure Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] to start in the XI.”
