Man Utd fail with late Everton raid as Idrissa Gueye snubs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for PSG

The Premier League side have agreed a deal in the region of £28million for the Senegalese international, who has rejected a late move to Manchester United.

Gueye was at the top of Thomas Tuchel’s summer shopping list after failing to sign him during the January transfer window made it clear he wanted the move.

The former Lille and Aston Villa man will sign a four-year deal with PSG, with the option of another year written into the contract.

Gueye will be unveiled on Monday before going on a short holiday after playing in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Everton are ready to use the money to fund a move for Mainz’s Jean-Philippe Gbamin who has impressed Marco Silva in scouting reports.

United’s failed move for Gueye could accelerate their efforts to land fellow midfield targets Sean Longstaff and Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes said before Sporting’s pre-season clash with Liverpool: “Will this be the last match for Sporting? I don’t know, it’s the coach who decides.

“I told you before I’d like to play in England, but I don’t care about it right now.

“If it could be this season? It could be when the club decides, I’m not in charge.”

While his manager Marcel Keizer said: “For me they can close the window, it would be enough for me.

“At all times, before starting, one expects exits and entrances. We have to wait.

“We want to keep the best, but we’re in the market.

“Soon we have to wait. We are not in the position where we can keep everyone.

“It depends, of course, on what enters later if Bruno leaves. Quality players like that we can’t replace.”

Express Sport understands, however, that United will not be raiding Lazio to land midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Milinkovic-Savic had been touted as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, but a deal is not on the cards.
