Man Utd 'fail in transfer bid' for Bournemouth striker Joshua King

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly failed in a bid to land Bournemouth striker Joshua King in the January transfer window.

United have been on the lookout for a forward this month having missed out on top target Erling Haaland, who instead joined Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg.

The Red Devils did not replace Romelu Lukaku or Alexis Sanchez last summer, and the need for more firepower increased when Marcus Rashford was sidelined by a double stress fracture of the back recently.

Solskjaer had identified his fellow Norwegian King as a potential solution – but United’s bid met with a flat refusal from Bournemouth, according to the Telegraph.

The publication quotes an Old Trafford source saying King was a deal “we thought we could get done but was met with resistance from Bournemouth”.

Bournemouth are currently in the Premier League drop zone and manager Eddie Howe is determined to keep his squad together in a bid to avoid relegation.

King, who was born in Oslo and has 46 caps for Norway, has been out with a hamstring injury but is due to return after the Premier League’s winter break.

He was working his way through the youth ranks at Old Trafford when Solskjaer started coaching with United’s reserves 11 years ago.
