Man Utd 'eyeing January transfer swoop' for Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic

Manchester United are weighing up a January transfer swoop for Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic.

Mandzukic was in discussions with United in the summer but the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement, and he remained in Turin to gauge whether he still had a future at the club.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eventually decided not to replace the outgoing Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, but to start the season with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as his striking options.

However, injuries to Rashford and Martial have exposed United’s lack of options, with 17-year-old Greenwood having been asked to shoulder the burden of United’s goalscoring responsibility.

The teenager has responded well, scoring two goals in his last two games and becoming the club’s youngest ever scorer in European competition.

Mario Mandzukic could be available for around £9m in January

But he has only started one Premier League game, and now it seems Solskjaer will try and bolster United’s firepower when the January transfer window opens.

Mandzukic, 33, has been frozen out by Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri, who did not register the striker in his Champions League squad.

Now that the veteran knows where he stands, it is thought he could be more open to a move, and United are weighing up a swoop which should cost around £9million, according to Goal .

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are both doubts for Monday night’s game against Arsenal

United are also considering a move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, according to Mundo Deportivo – although there is concern over his fitness at present.

The Spanish publication reports that United are keen on Dembele , whose Barcelona future looks increasingly uncertain amid continued speculation about Neymar’s return to the club.

Dembele returned to the Barca line-up after injury for their win over Villarreal last week, but was left out of the victory over Getafe on Saturday, with the club later confirming he had a hamstring injury.

United are also said to be considering a move for Ousmane Dembele, although he was injured at the weekend

It remains to be seen whether the injury will rule him out of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Inter Milan.

Barca want to recoup the money they paid for the forward when signing him from Borussia Dortmund, with his asking price currently set at £100 million.
