Man Utd 'eyeing January transfer swoop' for former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Lyon striker Moussa Dembele ahead of the January transfer window, according to reports.

Injuries to the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have left Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer short of options up front after the summer departures of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

Rashford’s groin strain during last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham resulted in Solskjaer turning to Mason Greenwood during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Rochdale, which saw the 17-year-old find the target in the penalty shoot-out win.

However, with the Norwegian looking to add another striker to his ranks when the transfer window re-opens, The Mail reports that Premier League club are tracking Dembele with the view to a potential move.

According to the publication, a representative from United was present at Lyon’s league clash with Brest on Wednesday, which saw the 23-year-old find the net in the 2-2 draw.

Man Utd have reportedly sent scouts to watch Moussa Dembele

It is claimed that a scout was also at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais a week earlier to watch the French club’s Champions League opener with Zenit St Petersburg.

After finding the net 15 times in Ligue 1 last season, Dembele has enjoyed an impressive start to the new campaign.

He has scored six goals in seven appearances in competitions, including braces in the league games against Amiens and Angers, and is currently the top scorer in France’s top tier.

United have shown interest in the former Celtic star since his early days at Paris Saint-Germain.

They were heavily linked with the Dembele towards the end of the summer and Solskjaer reportedly considered a move but prioritised other areas, such as improving the club’s defence.

If the club do launch a bid in January, the Mail claims that United are hopeful he will be able to adapt to the Premier League quickly due to his previous spell with Fulham .
