Man Utd encouraged to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa

Former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker Tony Cascarino has named Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa as the man he thinks should take over at Manchester United if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leaves the club.

Solskjaer has come under increased pressure following his side’s back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Burnley, with many supporters appearing to be losing patience with the recent poor results and performances.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Massimiliano Allegri have been tipped as possibilities to replace the Norwegian, but speaking to talkSPORT Cascarino said they should look to poach their rivals Leeds’ manager.

Marcelo Bielsa is a hugely popular figure at Leeds

“Pochettino is flavour of the month,” Cascarino said. “I’d have Bielsa over Pochettino every day of the week.

“Look at what he’s changed at Leeds. Pochettino was a very good manager at Spurs. He’s done an incredible job.

“But I’m talking about style of play. Remember, Pochettino is a disciple of Bielsa and the way he plays.

“If you were looking for a manager who has played with Manchester United’s traditional aggressive, attack-minded style, Bielsa would be my first choice.”

Bielsa, who is Pochettino’s managerial idol, took over at Leeds in the summer of 2018, and guided them into the Championship playoffs last season before they eventually lost out to Derby in the semi-finals.

They currently sit in second place in the Championship this season, one point off leaders West Brom but only three points ahead of third place Fulham, and it remains to be seen whether Bielsa stays at Elland Road beyond this season, having not stayed more than three years in any of his previous five clubs.
