Man Utd decision proves Old Trafford chiefs FEAR fans after toxic season – EXCLUSIVE

United unveiled the Adidas kit they will don over the course of the 2019/20 campaign with a statement posted on their official website on Thursday.

Express Sport understands, however, that Manchester United opted against launching the kit via their official social media channels to avoid prompting further unrest.

United fans can be forgiven for reeling at the end of a toxic 12 months during which Jose Mourinho fell out with key figures, led them on their worst start to a Premier League season and they failed to get their hands on any silverware.

It is understood United chiefs actively fear stirring up more unrest amongst a fan base which has seen their team fall from grace since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Therefore the new kit was not posted on United’s social media channels to ensure supporters did not have yet another reason to take aim at their dishevelled club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing an immense rebuilding job to get the Red Devils back in the thralls of the top four, let alone competing with runaway rivals Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the table.

United’s problems were rammed home on Saturday as City beat Watford in the FA Cup final to wrap up an unprecedented domestic treble.

And the 6-0 mauling of the Hornets at Wembley came just two days on from the curious absence of United’s new kit on any of their social media channels.

Adidas Football posted images of men’s first-team stars Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw wearing the new shirt on Instagram and Twitter as it went on sale via the official United website.

But, as of Saturday evening, United had failed to share images of the jersey, shorts or socks they will wear from this summer on any of their own social media accounts.

The kit, which displays the traditional red, white and black combination United have donned for years, pays homage to the club’s exploits during the 1998/99 season.

United won a historic Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup treble that year, which is yet to be matched by any of their domestic rivals.

United are now, though, staring into the abyss with the transfer window open and Champions League football not on offer next season.

Solskjaer and co. face being left behind by their rivals as targets look to test themselves in Europe’s elite club competition.

United might lose David de Gea, with the highly-rated Spaniard reluctant to sign a new contract and a host of Champions League-chasing clubs eyeing him up.

United are, meanwhile, thought to be willing to listen to offers for Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez, both of whom have proved unable to recapture their best form in Manchester.
