MANCHESTER UNITED could turn to England boss Gareth Southgate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after previously blocking the Three Lions gaffer’s route into management.
Southgate may emerge as an option for United if they decide to get rid of struggling Solskjaer at the end of the season.

However, one stumbling block towards a potential deal is the fact United tried to stop Southgate becoming a manager in the first place.

Southgate, 49, was handed the Riverside Stadium gig to replace England-bound Steve McClaren in 2006, when he was still taking his coaching Pro Licence badge.
It meant he needed dispensation from Premier League clubs to take the job.

United, where Sir Alex Ferguson was not impressed, were the sole opposition.

Waiting in the wings, however, is Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino was axed by the North London club last month and is thought to be looking for a swift return to management.
