Man Utd confirm Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling loan decision

Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling will remain in Italy for the remainder of the season after Manchester United chose to extend their loan deals.

The pair have spent the season in Serie A with Inter Milan and Roma respectively.

Neither look to have a future at Old Trafford and the Red Devils have chosen to extend their time away in Italy before making a decision on their next move.

Smalling has fared better than Sanchez with Roma keen to keep the centre-half in the capital beyond this season.

The Chilean however has struggled with injuries and been unable to nail down a place in Antonio Conte’s first team at the San Siro.

Alexis Sanchez has spent the year at Inter

Both players will return to Manchester in early August, at which point United will make a decision on their future but the MEN understands that neither feature in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

FIFA and UEFA have suggested that the transfer window will remain open until October because of the postponements to leagues around Europe.

This would allow United more time to find buyers for each player, with Sanchez’s hefty wage potentially providing an issue.

Roma are keen to keep hold of Chris Smalling

The former Arsenal man has a contract in the north west until June 2022 but has been offered an escape route by Spanish side Real Valladolid.

Smalling also has two years to run on his United deal but Roma seem keen on making his switch permanent.

Manager Paulo Fonseca said earlier this year: “I will do everything I can to keep him at Roma next year too. I know he wants to stay, let’s see what happens.
