Man Utd coach issued stern warning to one player after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer comments

Manchester United coach Martyn Pert issued a warning to Fred after comments made about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier in the season. The Brazil international has impressed for the Red Devils after struggling last term, emerging as a vital player amid the Norwegian’s ongoing Old Trafford rebuild.

Earlier in the season, Fred gave a rather bizarre interview to Brazilian media where he opened up on life at Manchester United.

On his team-mates, he said: “We are lacking a lot right now, first of all we need to figure out things on the pitch, we are lacking creativity, especially in midfield.

“We also need to improve as a group, our group lacks the ‘sticking together mentality’, we have lots of problems.

“There are a lot of discussions, every group has this sort of problem, but ours has this.

“Vanity is also an issue and we need to stop this and just run on the pitch. We need to stick a goal inside our minds, focus on it and go forward.

“We need to be on the same page and today some players have different objectives, there are players that just want to solve problems alone and this is wrong.”

Speaking about Solskjaer personally, he added: “He is young and growing every day. He learned a lot and will grow as a coach and person.

“It is up to the board to decide, we do not have the power to decide on this. But he is very nice, he is an extraordinary person, he talks a lot, he has a playful side and he is always smiling.

“The day to day is great and he is very important for the team, as he was as a player in the history of the club.”

And The Times say that, after those comments, Pert warned Fred to choose his words more carefully in future.

It was deemed that he’d implied Solskjaer was a rookie coach – and the club’s staff weren’t happy.

“He’s really taken on the challenge this season, he had a tough first season, but ever since we came in we’ve shown him that we believe in him, he’s known that,” said the 47-year-old.

“With your teammates, he had two or three that he was close to, but now we’re more of a close unit, the groups are closer to each other and his English has really improved,” said Solskjaer.

“He’s a top lad, a top human being, professional, he works hard.

“The season started a bit slow for him because he came a bit later.

“He got married, but that was because of the Copa America so it had to be planned, so he missed pre-season, but I’m delighted with him.”
