Man Utd chiefs make January transfer decision that could frustrate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United chiefs have reportedly decided to ensure they don’t overpay in January, potentially frustrating manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer is under pressure at United having won just two of their first eight Premier League matches this season.

It comes despite the Norwegian bringing three players to Old Trafford in the summer, though he lost Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

United have struggled in attack and Solskjaer has suggested the Red Devils will attempt to bring in at least one new forward in January.

Though ESPN report that United chiefs have decided they will not overpay for new signings when the transfer window reopens.

That could lead to frustration for Solskjaer, who initially suggested he wanted to overhaul his squad ahead of the summer.

But the Norwegian himself is keen to only get players in that he wants and not to panic buy.

He said last month: “There’s no point getting players in that you’re not 100 per cent sure about.

“When you get players in you need the right ones that are going to stay here for a longer period and that’s the long-term thinking we have to show.

“I cannot think, ‘I need a player because this is my reputation’. No, it’s the club.

“Of course, we let Alexis and Romelu go and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see that it’s a forward we need the next time we’re going to recruit.

“We’re looking for some creativity and goals. We need to score more goals, definitely.

“We’ve done great defensively but we’re not happy with the return going forward.”
