Man Utd chief Ed Woodward’s stance on signing Jadon Sancho and the problem club face

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have the backing of Ed Woodward if he decides to go after Jadon Sancho but it won’t be easy to convince him to move to Old Trafford.

United are looking to boost the right side of their attack and Sancho is seen as the perfect candidate that could join Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata in the wing.

Signing the England international, however, would require an excess of £100million and that is why the Red Devils decided not to go after him this summer as they preferred to concentrate on strengthening their defence with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, who cost £50m and £80m respectively.

According to Goal, Solskjaer is already looking forward to the summer and wants to continue pursuing young, British talent like the Borussia Dortmund star.

Sancho’s price tag doesn’t pose a problem to United executive vice-chairman Woodward as he is happy to back the Norwegian gaffer in the transfer market.

However, the Red Devils will still struggle to complete that signing because the forward’s inner circle don’t think a move to Old Trafford would be the right one for him.

The 19-year-old has been advised that United are not the perfect destination to continue his career as their standing in world football has been on a steady decline the last few years.

The Manchester giants are still in a process of rebuilding under Solskjaer and are not set to return to the top any time soon.

United have been enduring a poor run of form this term that saw them putting together their worst ever start to a season since 1989.

A potential lack of Champions League football would also be critical and that is why Sancho may even prefer to stay at Dortmund next season.

The Manchester City academy graduate joined the Bundesliga giants in 2017 and was quickly promoted to the senior squad.

Sancho has scored 18 goals in 64 appearances so far and has also produced 29 assists.

The Londoner also seems set to rack up some big numbers this season as he already counts four goals and six assists in nine games.

He earned his first international call-up last year by England boss Gareth Southgate and has scored twice in eight matches.
