Man Utd chief Ed Woodward’s stance on sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before summer explained

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward is unlikely to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before the end of the season, according to reports.

Solskjaer has found himself under scrutiny with the Red Devils enduring a nightmare campaign so far, winning just two of their first seven Premier League games and finding the net just once from two Europa League matches.

That dire record has led to talk that Manchester United could look to make a change – particularly with Massimiliano Allegri currently available.

The Independent claim, though, that Woodward is unlikely to axe the Norwegian before the end of the season.

And that’s because he’s ‘invested’ in the Solskjaer pick.

The United chief turned to the Norwegian in March after he had a successful spell as interim manager.

Since then, however, results have continued to worsen.

But Woodward is preparing to give the United manager time to turn things around having backed him up until this point.

Solskjaer was given funds to spend on the likes of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James in the summer.

And Woodward, speaking recently, vowed to continue to support the 46-year-old going forward.

“We and our growing global fan-base demand success,” the United chief said at a recent conference.

“Success means winning trophies. That target and that standard has never changed for Manchester United.

“The progress we’ve made on the business side underpins the continued investment in the football side.

“Much of the progress made around that investment in the academy, the recruitment department and the training ground facilities is behind the scenes and therefore isn’t immediately apparent to those on the outside looking in.

“These investments, together with the commitment we’ve made to Ole and his coaching staff in March have given us the building blocks for success.

“Whilst we’re confident this investment will deliver results, it’s important that we are patient while Ole and his team build for the future.

“We will continue to focus on the long-term strategy and won’t be influenced by short-term distractions. We’re optimistic for the future.”

United are next in action on Sunday when they take on Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The Red Devils won 2-0 in the same fixture last term with Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku on target.
