Man Utd chief Ed Woodward holds talks with Glazers over changes at Old Trafford


Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has held talks with the Glazers about making ‘cultural’ changes at the club.

United have had a mixed start to the 2019/20 season, winning twice, losing twice and drawing the other two games in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hired in March following a three-month spell in which he impressed as caretaker boss following Jose Mourinho’s sacking, winning 14 of 17 games.

But despite spending £150million in the summer, United don’t look to have improved like many thought they would.

And according to the Daily Star, chief Woodward has been involved in long talks with Glazers about making key changes at the club.

One of the biggest criticisms of United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 is that they’ve lost the big characters who had big influences on the dressing room.

But Woodward is said to be keen on bringing back the old school United culture back to the club, with the Glazers insistent on that happening as well.

Mistakes in the transfer have also been made – high-profile moves for big-name, established players like Bastian Schweinsteiger and Radamel Falcao have failed.

The expensive transfer of Angel Di Maria also flopped in 2014, just as Alexis Sanchez’s move did in January 2018.

There was a sense during the summer that those times had passed, as Solskjaer put all his effort into signing young British players.

Aaron-Wan Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James were all signed and they’ve impressed since their moves to Old Trafford.

And Woodward is hoping that the club can retain that strategy instead of the short-term fixes United previously looked to in the wake of Ferguson’s departure.

The Glazers believe it’ll take at least another six transfer windows before United are back on track again.

They take on Rochdale tonight in the third round of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford.
