Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals transfer plans after getting job permanently


The Norwegian was handed a three-year permanent contract to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

United announced on Wednesday that Solskjaer had become their new manager, 99 days after taking caretaker charge following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

With a new role comes new responsibility, his team selections will now have more long-term importance and players will also be playing for their futures at the club.

The 46-year-old has won 14 of his 19 matches at the helm and United fans now have a team to be proud of again that plays an attacking style of football.

While the enormous progress on the field has been there for all to see, Solskjaer’s efforts must be reflected with a top four finish at least come May.

His side also have the small matter of a Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona last this month.

Qualification for next season’s competition remains imperative in helping Manchester United secure the biggest transfer budget possible for the summer.

Solskjaer has vowed to spend money wisely throughout his tenure, claiming the club will be prudent with their recruitment criteria.

“United is a club that has money, and that has to be spent in a reasonable way,” Solskjaer told Norwegian media.

“People who know me, know that I will use that in a good way.

“We have a plan with the club, they have scouted players for longer than I have been here, and we have players that we need to keep.

“We will not spend money just to spend money.”

The Baby-faced Assassin also claimed that he will aim to have his summer business concluded by the time united fly to Australian for their pre-season tour.

Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Antonio Valencia are yet to be offered new contracts and could depart on a free transfer.

Solskjaer is hopeful Herrera will stay put after being linked with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

“We want the best players in this club,” he said. “Let’s hope club and player find an agreement. We will have a strong squad next season. Ander has been very good since I came in.”
