Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pinpoints Aaron Wan-Bissaka ‘chance’ after England snub

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka could benefit from missing out on Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.

That is the view of his manager at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has praised the right-back’s performances so far this season.

Gareth Southgate has dropped the 21-year-old for the second squad in a row after he made the list back in September, but Solskjaer is feeling positive.

He said: ”I remember when I wasn’t picked for Norway the first time, because there were loads of rumours about me being picked, and I thought it ‘thanks’, because ‘I’m just getting used to the Norwegian top league now’.

“I think maybe, as well, he’s not a flash guy, he likes to get on with these things and I’m sure he will get his chance later on and he’s been fantastic.”

Wan-Bissaka joined United from Crystal Palace in the summer for an initial fee of £50million, as Solskjaer puts the emphasis back on youth.

The former Cardiff and Molde boss has also given his thoughts on when the player might be able to convince Southgate to name him in the squad for a second time, despite the performances of Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“I think Aaron is going to get his time in the national team soon enough,” he said.

“Aaron’s coping really well with the move that he made from Palace to here.

“It’s not long ago he played in the reserves at Crystal Palace, then he played a great season last season.

“Now he’s taken this club by storm because we all rate him highly as a player and a person and I don’t worry about him not being picked.

“He will be picked soon enough.”

Former United man Owen Hargreaves has also given his thoughts on how Wan-Bissaka can improve, and it involves his output going forward.

He said on BT Sport: “He’s a really good player but he’s got to add that.

“He got three [assists] last season, hasn’t got any this season.

“I love him but here [at United] they use the full-backs, they get up the pitch and get goals and assists. He can improve on that.”
