Manchester United are reportedly ready to splash £90million on the signings of Sean Longstaff and Moussa Dembele in January.
The Red Devils are still in need of additions after a tough start to the season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to spend big to boost their top four chances.
According to the Daily Star, Longstaff and Dembele are top of the wish-list and expected to cost around £90m with Ed Woodward telling Solskjaer he will be backed with significant funds.
They believe Lyon will be tempted to part with former Celtic striker Dembele, 23, for a fee of around £50million.
Longstaff, 21, was said to have a £55m price tag slapped on his head by Newcastle in the summer but their current crisis and lack of cash has Woodward believing a deal could be agreed for around £40m when the window reopens.
Longstaff has been a long term target for the Red Devils but has only appeared five times for the Magpies this season.
The former Kilmarnock and Blackpool loaness, missed much of last season due to a knee ligament injury and has less than 100 career appearances to his name, eight of which have come in the Premier League.
On the other hand, Dembele has clocked up 208 appearances at Fulham , Celtic and Lyon -and would be expected to be ready for first team football at Old Trafford straight away.
Dembele would ease the strain on Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood – who are United’s only three strikers, after Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku were loaned out and sold to Inter Milan in the summer.
Asked if he will be in the market for a striker in recently, Solskjaer said: “Of course.
“We let Alexis and Romelu go and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see that it’s a forward that next time we’re going to recruit. We’re looking for some creativity and goals.
“We need to score more goals, definitely, and that’s what I’ve said here, we’re working on improving relationships, the patterns, the understanding.
“We’ve started in one end with the foundation, we’ve done great defensively, but we’re not happy with the return going forward.”
United have also looked at Alvaro Morata, Mario Mandzukic, Robert Lewandowski and Callum Wilson for a January swoop.
