Man Utd board worried fans will 'revolt' over key contract decision

Marcus Rashford’s fine form for Manchester United is set to be rewarded with a new six-year contract, and the United board are in no doubt about the popularity of the player among the club’s fans.

According to a report in the Metro, the United board are worried that fans will ‘revolt’ if the 21-year-old academy product is allowed to run down his deal any further.

He has 18 months remaining on his current deal, and despite previous links with moves away during Jose Mourinho’s time at the club, Rashford is now much happier playing for his boyhood side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rashford has started 11 of the Norwegian’s 13 games in charge, and has established himself as the club’s first choice central striker, usurping Romelu Lukaku.

Anthony Martial, Ashley Young and Phil Jones have all recently signed new deals with the club, and Mirror Sport exclusively revealed the details of Rashford’s contract on Wednesday.

He is set to see his wages more than doubled to £180,000 a week with the new deal, which will tie him to United until 2025.
