When Manchester United announced they had agreed a deal to sign Daniel James earlier in the summer, reaction on social media was mixed.
Some were unhappy. Having seen Real Madrid splash the cash over in Spain following an underwhelming campaign, some Red Devils supporters pined for Galactico names.
Others were enthused. Sure, he was coming from Championship side Swansea. But, under a manager like Solskjaer, he could thrive.
Four games into his Premier League career, and it appears United have found a solution to their wing woes.
James has looking exceptional ever since his arrival and has three league goals to his name from four matches.
The Wales international has wowed figures at the club behind the scenes with his professionalism and appetite to learn.
And while he remains raw, James appears to be one of the first names on Solskjaer’s team sheet already.
The right wing has been an issue for United for years, ever since Sir Alex Ferguson was there.
But James, who caused chaos from both flanks, seems to be the perfect remedy and the sky’s the limit.
He impressed against Southampton at St Mary’s and his goal was a beauty, giving Saints goalkeeper Angus Gunn no chance.
But while United have solved one issue, the Premier League showdown also shows they have two more.
One of them is Victor Lindelof.
The United defender was criticised on social media last week after gifting Palace a goal in their 2-1 defeat.
And he was to blame for Southampton’s equaliser, being too weak to challenge Jannik Vestergaard.
Lindelof seems to be suffering a dip in form already and Solskjaer will need the Sweden international to immediately up his game.
Another issue United have is a lack of creativity.
Juan Mata started the game at No 10 but the Spain international was too slow to cause Southampton true problems.
Andreas Pereira can play there but he, too, was average at St Mary’s.
The only other option United have is Jesse Lingard, somebody who has gone without a goal or assist in 11 of the last 12 months.
Solskjaer may have James to thank for solving one problem – but now he has two more.
