Man Utd and Arsenal transfer target Edinson Cavani urged to stay at PSG

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has insisted he wants striker Edison Cavani to remain at the club despite recent speculation linking him with a move.

The 32-year-old has been a peripheral figure at the French champions so far this season, having made just nine appearances in Ligue 1.

His contract is set to expire in June, but the likes of Manchester United , Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are reportedly all keen to sign him this month.

Speaking following his team’s comfortable 4-1 victory over Monaco on Wednesday, though, Tuchel said he was keen for Cavani to stay until at least the end of the season.

“If there can be departures and arrivals in the group? It’s still possible in football, I can’t say,” Tuchel said to Canal+.

Cavani? We have to ask Edi the question. He is injured. He felt something in training and he couldn’t be there. If I want him to stay? It’s better, to achieve our goals, to have him, yes.”

Cavani has been at PSG since 2013, and in that time has scored an impressive 198 goals in 291 games.

He has fallen down the pecking order this season, however, with Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi keeping him out of the starting 11.

If Cavani were to stay it could spell bad news for Arsenal, with recent reports suggesting Atletico would turn their attentions towards Alexandre Lacazette if they are unable to sign the PSG man.

The Gunners will be especially reliant on the Frenchman over the next few weeks, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang suspended for three games following his sending off against Crystal Palace , and Mikel Arteta said he thinks it could be Lacazette’s moment to shine.

“They now have to make a step forward now he (Aubameyang) is not able to contribute to the team with goals,” said Arteta when asked if other players needed to step up.

“Someone else has to do it and I want to see that reaction too.”
