Man United vs Tottenham: Dele Alli highlights concerning reason for defeat at Old Trafford

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has candidly admitted ”arrogance and over-confidence” cost his side in their 2-1 defeat by Manchester United in the Premier League on Wednesday.

After rattling off a three-match winning streak to begin the Jose Mourinho era, Spurs were rightfully bouncing on their way to Old Trafford, but they were soon handed a cold reality check.

Marcus Rashford slammed home the opener, but it was Alli who plucked the ball out of the sky before smacking home to draw the teams level.

But a a 49th-minute Rashford penalty condemned Spurs to a momentum-killing defeat, leaving Alli to brutally assess his side’s work.

“We had to match their energy. We lost the game not by them outplaying us – just attitude,” Alli told reporters.

“We weren’t hungry enough and we were slow to every second ball, losing 50-50s. “Maybe it was a little bit of arrogance and over-confidence. We’ve been playing well.

“We have to learn from this. Games like this bring your feet back down.”

The result saw Spurs slip to eighth in the table.
