Jermaine Jenas has predicted Manchester United and Chelsea will launch a Premier League title challenge next season.

Liverpool have just been confirmed as champions, but were beaten 4-0 by their closest rivals Manchester City on Thursday night.

Despite the rout, Liverpool have a 20-point cushion over City and debates are ongoing about which side could match the Reds next season.

Jenas is convinced Chelsea and United can bridge what is currently a massive gap to be challengers to City and Liverpool next term.

Manchester United. United have been really impressive I think,’ Jenas told Match of the Day when asked who could compete with Liverpool and City.

‘It’s unbelievable to see the difference one player can make with Bruno Fernandes.

‘The link-up with Pogba seems to be flourishing as well. Chelsea look like they will make moves in the market as well which will strengthen them hugely.

‘I think they’ve got defensive things they need to look at but those are the two sides that I see that will try to push Liverpool and Manchester City all the way next season.’

Jurgen Klopp agreed with Jenas’ assessment, saying before his side’s defeat to City on Thursday that he expected huge improvements among his rivals.

‘Yes, City will be strong next season, United will be strong next season, Chelsea will be strong next season,’ Klopp said.

‘They all will be strong next season. Out of the three of them, it’s obvious City is just an outstanding team.

‘United are in outstanding shape and Chelsea are in really good shape and doing some interesting business.

‘Tottenham will not sleep, Arsenal will not sleep – they’ll come. Leicester will be there.

‘The thing is we have to play 38 games during a year and it’s who wins most of them [who will] win the league.

‘We will not defend the title next year, we will attack the next one. That will be difficult enough.

‘What we achieved last year, in this case last week, is something for the history books.’
